alcohol & drug evals

Perspective

The goal of any substance abuse evaluation is to clarify if the individual has a problem with alcohol or drug abuse. Just because a person has a DUI and is arrested for drunk driving does not mean that they automatically have a diagnosis of alcohol dependence or that they must receive treatment. The same can be said for drug possession. The advantage of having a detailed evaluation is to determine if this incident was essentially a mistake or truly a warning sign of a larger chemical dependency problem.

DUI or other alcohol or drug related charges

If you have been arrested for DUI, Drug Possession or other alcohol, drug related charge you should contact your attorney to discuss the benefits of having a substance abuse evaluation.

It is helpful to be proactive about completing an assessment before going to court so that your attorney will have all the information possible to provide the best possible defense.

You may be able to speed up the process of getting this behind you as soon as possible. It is common for people who have been charged with a DUI or other drug, alcohol related charges to be required to complete an alcohol and drug assessment. By getting this step out of the way earlier you avoid waiting longer for license reinstatement.

A new DUI law went into effect July 1, 2008 that requires everyone arrested for a first time DUI to receive a clinical evaluation.

Drug and Alcohol Assessments take about 1 1/2 hours in the office. The assessment reports are typically about 5 pages and can be sent out within a week. The fee for this assessment is 200.

First time DUI Evaluations also take about 1 1/2 hours in the office. They are completed on the required forms for the state of Georgia. A copy of the client's NEEDS assessment report from the Risk Reduction Program they completed must be faxed to 770-783-6842 prior to the assessment appointment. The fee for the DUI Evaluation is 200.
